About the Lockheed
P-3 Orion

The Lockheed Electra was developed into a maritime patrol and anti-submarine aircraft, named P-3 Orion. It was intended as a replacement for the P-2 Neptune, also built by Lockheed.
*
The P-3 has an internal bomb bay. It can also carry missiles under the wing. Characteristic for the aircraft is the 'stinger' in the tail, including a magnetic detector.
*
Lockheed initially used modified civilian Electra airframes, but the final production P-3s were built separately. The first production aircraft, designated P3V-1, took off for its first flight on 15 April 1961,
*
Many variants of the P-3 exist. Canadian versions are designated CP-140 Aurora and the CP-140A Arcturus.
*
The pictures show a P-3C Orion of the Koninklijke Marine (Royal Netherlands Navy) and an aircraft of the US Navy.
