Convair Convairliner Firefighter

Still Going Strong

An interesting task for this Convair CV-580 is firefighting. This aircraft is modified to have a tank under the fuselage for carriage of water and fire-retardant. The photograph is taken at Anchorage Ted Stevens Airport.

This is an ex-military Convair VT-29B (CV-240) in service with Desert Air Transport, based at Anchorage Ted Stevens Airport. The name sounds strange in this area, but the airline was originally based in Utah and moved to Anchorage in 2001. The airline also operates the DC-3 Dakota.
