Boeing 747 'Jumbo Jet'
One of the most impressive airliners - for me and for the general public - is the Boeing 747, 'the Jumbo Jet'. Especially thanks to its remarkable 'bubble' it is a good plane to take pictures of. The 747 was the first widebody aircraft and the only one of the first generation still produced. It is in production for almost forty years.
The smaller Lockheed L-1011 TriStar and McDonnell Douglas DC-10 are not being built any more and the production of the somewhat later Airbus A300 will probably stop in 2007. The 747 was also the first airliner using high-bypass turbofan engines. It is much bigger than any airliner before it and meant a revolution in airline transport.
